review: Marriott Chongqing
We chose the Marriott Chongqing as our first stop in China. It was booked directly through Marriott.com. For two night in a Deluxe Mountain View, it was around CNY 1736 (EUR 223).
Depends on the traffic, it could take about 30 minutes from the hotel to airport, north railway station or Chongqing downtown.
Upon arrival, we were helped by the concierge staff with the luggage. The hotel reception was located on the 29th floor. During check-in, it was a bit confused because of the language barrier. I was upgraded to Executive River View with access to the executive lounge due to my platinum status. As the room was not ready, we were escorted to the club lounge to wait.
Unfortunately, I forgot on which floor the room was, but it was very spacious and had a breathtaking view of the Chongqing skyline and the Yangtze river.
The gym, pool and spa located one level below the lobby.
The executive lounge was one of the better lounges that I've been to. Breakfast could be chosen either in the lounge or City Bistro restaurant. There were some fruits, cake and small sandwiches during the afternoon and canapes with some alcoholic beverage in the evening.
Both mornings we went to the City Bistro for breakfast. On the first day, I was stopped by a staff making photos for no reasons. The option offered was just incredible. After years of eating only western breakfast in hotels, this was like Christmas for me seeing these endless authentic Chinese foods.
Our stay at the Marriott Chongqing was pleasant. It was our first stop in China and even when hotel staffs could not understand us sometimes, the level of hospitality was amazing.
